| This five-hour introductory training is being offered to all community-based organizations that have never applied for tobacco
control funding. This training will discuss the planning and components that go into a well-presented grant proposal, with an emphasis on submitting for federal, state, county, or city funding. Topics include: |
- developing core elements of a proposal
- using public data sources to build your case
- identifying and involving strategic partners

- researching grant sources
- program vs. research grant proposals
- tobacco use among priority populations and trends(s) to focus on policy
|
Learning Objectives
At the end of this training, participants will be able to: |
- Discuss 3-5 elements that go into a grant proposal.
- Describe how public data sources can be used in grant proposal writing.
- Identify 2 sources for potential funding opportunities.
- Differentiate between program vs. research grant proposals.

| ABOUT THE TRAINER |
Michael Prelip, MPH, DPA, CHES, CPH, is an associate professor in the Department of Community
Health Sciences at the UCLA School of Public Health. He is
currently involved in a number of community-based research projects that use
the community participatory model, and conducts his work in both domestic
and international settings. Dr. Prelip recently finished a project with the
Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) to develop a process to improve
the school and community environment to be more "nutrition friendly." He is
the lead evaluator for LAUSD's nutrition education programs and develops
evaluation methods to assess impact of school-based nutrition education
programs. Dr. Prelip recently started an NIH-funded project with Health Net
of California to improve health literacy of adolescents, and two CDC-funded
research projects examining collaborations between local health departments,
schools, and community- and faith-based organizations for disaster
