Michael Prelip, MPH, DPA, CHES, CPH
Dr. Mike Prelip is an associate professor in the Department of Community
Health Sciences at the UCLA School of Public Health. He supervises the
field component of its Master of Public Health (MPH) program and teaches
courses in community-based program planning, research, and evaluation; fund
development; community organization; and leadership and empowerment. He is
currently involved in a number of community-based research projects that use
the community participatory model, and conducts his work in both domestic
and international settings. Dr. Prelip recently finished a project with the
Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) to develop a process to improve
the school and community environment to be more "nutrition friendly." He is
the lead evaluator for LAUSD's nutrition education programs and develops
evaluation methods to assess impact of school-based nutrition education
programs. Dr. Prelip recently started an NIH-funded project with Health Net
of California to improve health literacy of adolescents, and two CDC-funded
research projects examining collaborations between local health departments,
schools, and community- and faith-based organizations for disaster
readiness. He is the faculty advisor for the UCLA Mobile Clinic Project,
which provides primary health care to homeless and at-risk for homeless
individuals.
